Autism Studies in Education
«Methodologies | Critique | Representation»
The Lecture Series “Autism Studies in Education” aims to create a space for discussion and exchange on critical approaches towards the phenomena of autism or neurodiversity and related practices in educational institutions. Following Davidson and Orsini (2013: 13) in their understanding, we see (critical) autism studies as a way to advance “new, enabling narratives of autism that challenge the predominant (deficit-focused and degrading) constructions that influence public opinion, policy, and popular culture”. In the lecture series, various discussion impulses will be presented by guest contributors which address fundamental methodological questions and the representation of non- /autistic actors in research. The series is organized by the research group Autism Studies in Education (AutiSE), headed by KeBU member Andreas Köpfer.
