Processing of personal data

Each time our website is accessed, our web server automatically collects data and information from the computer system of the accessing computer.

The following data is collected:

  • System data of the browser and operating system used by the user (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)
  • The IP address of the user
  • Date and time of access
  • Websites from which the user’s system accesses our website
  • Websites that are called up by the user’s system via our website

This information is required to deliver the contents of our website correctly, to optimise the contents of our website and to ensure the permanent operability of our IT systems and the technology of our website and is based on justified interests in the sense of Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. GDPR.

IP addresses are only recorded for the duration of the visit to enable delivery of the website to the user’s computer and are not stored beyond the end of the visit.

The remaining data is stored in the log files of our system. Since no IP address is stored, there is no possibility of assigning the data to a specific user; the data is therefore anonymous.

Some offers on our website (e.g. registration for events, contact forms) require the collection of personal data. Only the data that is absolutely necessary is collected and it is also only used for the stated purpose and deleted after the purpose has been fulfilled. The personal data collected will not be passed on to third parties without your express consent and they will not be linked to the server’s log files. The legal basis for the processing of this data is the consent of the user.

Our websites use cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on a computer system via a web browser. Cookies consist of a string of characters by which web pages and servers can be assigned to a specific web browser. A specific web browser can thus be recognized and identified.

Cookie settings

You can prevent the setting of cookies by our website at any time by means of an appropriate setting of the web browser used and thus permanently object to the setting of cookies. Furthermore, cookies that have already been set can be deleted at any time via the web browser or other software programs. This is possible in all common web browsers. By deactivating cookies, the functionality of our websites may be limited.

Essential cookies

Insofar as personal data is also processed by individual cookies implemented by us, the processing of so-called essential cookies, i.e. cookies that are required for the technical implementation of our website or individual functions, is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 Sentence 1 lit. GDPR in order to enable you to use the website or the relevant function.

Representation of mathematical formulas with MathJax

We use MathJax to display mathematical formulas. MathJax is a JavaScript-based library that converts LaTeX and MathML commands into displayable formulas. It is an open source software supported by the NumFOCUS Foundation. When you call up certain pages, your browser loads the required data and connects to the MathJax servers. This provides MathJax with information about the IP address from which the page was accessed. MathJax is used in the interest of a uniform and appealing presentation of our webpage. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. DSGVO

For more information on MathJax, please visit

Non-essential cookies

Furthermore, we use cookies on our website on the basis of your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. a GDPR) in the context of services that are not absolutely necessary for the usability of our website, but e.g. serve the optimisation of the usability and/or analysis of the usage behaviour of the visitors of our website.

Our website embeds content from YouTube. The operator of the YouTube pages is YouTube LLC, 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. This content is blocked on our site by default until you give your consent in general in the cookie settings or give your consent manually for an individual YouTube video. When you give your consent, a connection is established to a YouTube server and it is informed from which of our pages you have accessed it.

Cookie settings

If you are logged into your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to associate your browsing behaviour directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.
YouTube is used in the interest of an appealing presentation of our online offers. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. GDPR. For more information on the handling of user data, please refer to YouTube’s privacy policy at:

Statistical analysis with Matomo

We use the open source software Matomo for statistical analysis of visitor access. The data collected during access are not passed on to third parties, but remain exclusively on a server of the University of Education Freiburg and are only evaluated internally for the purpose of improving our web pages. We process this data for legitimate interest according to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. GDPR. Your IP address is immediately anonymized during this process, so the evaluation is anonymous.

Contact forms

If you send us enquiries, registrations etc. via web form, your details from the form will be stored with us for the purpose of processing the enquiry. We do not pass on this data without your consent. The processing of the data entered in the forms is based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR). You can revoke this consent at any time. An informal message by e-mail to us is sufficient for this purpose. The legality of the data processing operations carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation. The data you enter will remain with us until you request us to delete it, revoke your consent to store it or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies (e.g. after we have completed processing your enquiry).

Your rights

Any person affected by the processing of personal data has the right, in accordance with the GDPR, to request information from the controller about the personal data stored about him or her. In addition, there is a right to the immediate correction of inaccurate personal data or deletion, or to the restriction of processing or a right to object to processing.

Consent to the processing of personal data under data protection law may be revoked at any time without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of the consent up to the revocation.

In addition, you may contact the competent supervisory authority if you have doubts about the lawfulness of the processing of personal data concerning you.

Deletion of personal data

Personal data collected by us will only be processed and stored for as long as is necessary to achieve the purpose of storage or as required by law or regulation.

Email Security

If you send us an e-mail, your e-mail address will only be used for correspondence with you. Please note that the data transmission of e-mails on the Internet can have security gaps. A complete protection of the data against access by third parties is not possible.
